Lady Trojans end superb Lady Bobcat season

MOUNT BELVIEU – Struggling out of the gate early, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats could never quite catch up with Coldspring Friday night as the Lady Trojans notched a 68-49 Class 3A Region III area round victory at Barbers Hill High School.
The Lady Trojans placed five players in double figures and stymied the cold-shooting Lady Bobcats early and controlled the game the whole way.
Bre’azya Bookman powered the Lady Trojan arsenal with a game-high 19 points.
Jakayla Glaze and freshman Shay Harris scored 11 points apiece for Coldspring while Jade Eldridge and Ro McKinney had 10 points apiece.
Bookman and McKinney teamed up for seven three-pointers on the night.
Faith Fregia once again paced the Orangefield offense as she had 18 points, 11 coming in the third period.
Jacey Bourque filtered in 11 points as the other Lady Bobcat double-figure scorer.
Senior guard Emmi Lummus wrapped up a great run in a Lady Bobcat uniform, scoring seven points despite battling foul trouble. Lacy Leach buried two three-point missiles in the fourth period to finish with six points as Orangefield, District 22-3A champions, wrapped up the year with a sparkling 29-7 record.
A 26-9 second quarter explosion by Coldspring, which was led by Bookman, enabled the Lady Trojans to take a commanding 37-15 lead at intermission.
Bookman scored 13 points in the second period, including burying three three-point shots.
The Lady Trojans held the Lady Bobcats to just four field goals in the first half and created 11 Orangefield turnovers.
Harris came off the bench to tally nine points in the half while Glaze had six points in the half.
Bourque led the Lady Bobcats with seven points in the half while Fregia had four points.
The Lady Bobcats got off to a slow start in the first period, trailing 11-2 but got baskets from Bourque and Fregia to trim it to 11-6 by the end of the first quarter.
Five different players scored for the Lady Trojans in the period with McKinney leading the way with a three-pointer while Bourque had three points for the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Bobcats almost matched up the Lady Trojans point for point in the third period. Coldspring won the quarter 21-19 to snag a 58-34 cushion heading to the final period.
Fregia poured in 11 points for the Lady Bobcats in the third period while Bookman and McKinney combined for 11 points in the period for Coldspring.
The Lady Bobcats outscored Coldspring 14-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Trojans also controlled the boards, finishing with a 37-25 rebounding edge. Both teams finished with 20 turnovers.
The Lady Trojans were just 10-of-27 from the free-throw line while Orangefield was 17-of-29.
The Lady Trojans move on to face Woodville, a 56-43 winner over Hitchcock FSriday, in the Region III quarterfinals next week.
