Man arrested for parole violations, drug charges and evading arrest

PRESS RELEASE — On Tuesday February 5th, 2019 at approximately 1:15 AM, Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division were working their assigned duties in the area of old Highway 90 in Vidor.

Investigators observed a grey in color 2010 Chevrolet pick-up truck fail to stop at a designated point at the intersection of Highway 90 and Interstate 10 North Service road.

As investigators activated the emergency lights, the subject vehicle failed to stop.

Investigators followed the vehicle south on Sergeant Street where it turned onto Orange Street. The subject vehicle turned south on Butler Street and traveled north to Terry road where the vehicle drove off of the roadway and into a fence line.

The uninjured driver of the vehicle was identified as Melvin Wedgeworth, a 32 year old Vidor resident. Wedgeworth was arrested for evading detention and during the arrest Investigators located approximately 250 grams of a clear crystal like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, and an amount of marihuana inside the vehicle.

Wedgeworth was arrested for a parole warrant out of Texas Pardons and Parole, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 felony 1 ($75,000 bond), Evading Detention ($15,000 bond) and Possession of Marihuana misdemeanor B ($1,500 bond).
