Newton County Sheriff’s Report 2.4.19

Let’s see what’s going on. Please remember the Simmons family in your prayers.
Retired Police Chief and Newton City Judge, Ricky Simmons, lost his wife Lisa last week. Lisa was a very important member of our Law Enforcement family. She will be truly missed.
We received a 911 call where a man had been stabbed by a woman. According to the woman, he was beating her when she stabbed him and he even shot at her and a friend before he beat her up. Two sides to this and we are still investigating.
Received a report of a travel trailer on fire. By the time we got there a barn and the owner’s pickup were on fire also. We were also advised that there were several thousand rounds of ammo in the trailer. About that time, they started going off. Lot of first responders started hiding behind one of the fire trucks. Firemen don’t have bullet proof vest “Yet”!
We had a 911 call this week about a runaway goat, donkey, horse, cow and a husband. All were found safe.
We received several calls about a scam that’s going around. Someone who says they are from a lawyer’s office is calling people. They tell the victim that they are being sued. Caller is very aggressive and very rude. Tell them to go fly a kite and hang up.
Gotta go. Thought for the week. I don’t approve of political jokes, I’ve seen too many of them get elected. Ya’ll have a good week and if we can help, just holler. God Bless.
