Blossoming Minds MLK Gala

The Blossoming Minds MLK Gala will be held at 7 p.m. at the Orange County Expo Center with a Dinner/Mixer from 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m. The dress code is Shades of Blue and is formal. Guests include Miguel Gobert, Marie Sanders, Jimmy Salter II, Nikki Richard, Brisco Lake, Pa. Demetrius Moffett, CW. Terrie Salter and many more. MLK Celebration

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, this year the March will be held indoors at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 512 West John Street in Orange.  The event will be inspiring, cultural infusion and offer refreshments.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 22

AAUW Book-ins Club
American Association of University Women (AAUW) will meet for its monthly Book-Ins Club on Tuesday, January 22, at 7 p.m. in the home of Karen McKinney, 8114 Canterbury, Orange 77632, in the Country Squire subdivision, with co-hostess as Lois Ferrell.  AAUW member Mary Walker, West Orange Elementary teacher, will review the book, “Killers of the Flower Moon”.  AAUW is a non-profit organization for women and men, which hopes to help women succeed in education.  The group sponsors scholarships each spring for a graduating senior female from Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, as well as one from West Orange-Stark High School in the City of Orange through an annual major fundraiser at Art in the Park, known as the AAUW Used Book Sale, bigger and better every year.  Other activities include Galloping Gourmet where members dine at various restaurants each month, an annual made-from-scratch pizza party, and a scholarship end-of-year banquet.  For more details, please call or text Diane at 409-988-5635.  Dues are $60 per year for those with 2 or 4-year degrees and beyond, or $25 per year to be a non-degreed Friend of AAUW (no voting rights or offices held), but eligible to participate in all activities.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 23

Golden K Kiwanis meeting

Golden K Kiwanis meets every Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Salvation Army Building, 1960 MLK Drive in Orange.  Maureen McAlister, President and CEO of United Way of Orange, will speak about Harvey recovery in Orange County, as well as give details about the upcoming Dueling Pianos United Way fundraiser in Orange.

 

Anniversary Celebration

Lamar State College – Orange will have an Anniversary Kickoff Celebration at 2 p.m. at Shahan Events Center at 209 Green Ave. in Orange as the college celebrates 50 years. The event includes refreshments, entertainment, giveaways, tours and proclamations.
