Lady Bobcats batter Kirbyville

ORANGEFIELD – Scoring the game’s first 17 points, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats were on “cruise control” the rest of the night as they breezed past the Kirbyville Lady Wildcats 75-20 Friday night at Bobcat Gym to remain perfect in District 22-3A play.

The first-place Lady Bobcats (23-6, 9-0) led 24-5 at the end of the first quarter and pushed it to 51-11 by the end of the first half.

Faith Fregia continued her hot hand as she led the Lady Bobcats with a game-high 24 points, outscoring Kirbyville on her own.

Emmi Lummus chimed in with 14 points. Jacey Bourque had nine points while Kylie Elkins had eight and Joli Ponfick added six.

Jayme Deutsch hauled in a game-high eight rebounds for the Lady Cats.

Orangefield forced Kirbyville into 37 turnovers, 28 of them coming in the first half. After that, the Lady Bobcats dropped the press.

Kayley Xaysey led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points while Juliet Olavarrieta added seven points and five boards.

The Lady Bobcats, who had just nine turnovers, outrebounded Kirbyville 26-16. Orangefield was 14-of-20 from the free-throw line while Kirbyville was just 3-of-12.

The Lady Bobcats will visit East Chambers Tuesday.
