While the Bridge City Cardinals look to break in a new field and stadium soon on the baseball diamond, the defending District 22-4A champions will look to continue their amazing success.

Long-time coach Chad Landry and the Cardinals will be on the quest of chasing yet another district crown and a deep ride into postseason play.

The Cardinals were recently tabbed No. 5 in the state by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll.

The Cardinals finished 24-9-2 last season, advancing to the 4A Region III quarterfinals in the process.

The entire top 10 for 4A in order includes state powerhouse Argyle, Sweeny, Pleasant Grove, Robinson, Bridge City, Canton, Salado, Iowa Park, Levelland and Cuero.

Baseball practice will officially get started Friday, Jan. 25.

The Cardinals will open their season Feb. 21-23 at their own tournament and will open defense of their 22-4A title with a home date against Hamshire-Fannett Mar. 5.

The top-ranked teams in the other classes includes Cypress Ranch in 6A, Colleyville Heritage in 5A, Georgetown Gateway in 3A, Big Sandy in 2A and D’Hanis in 1A.

The only other Southeast team ranked in the poll was Class 3A Kirbyville. The Wildcats are ranked No. 8.
