Former Port Neches-Groves quarterback Adam Morse announced Thursday on Twitter his intent to transfer from Lamar to Division II Henderson State University in Arkansas.
Morse has been mostly a backup in three seasons at Lamar after a stellar high school career. He was thrust into a starting role as a freshman in the 2016 season, the last under coach Ray Woodard, due to injuries to multiple QBs and played four games, completing 75 of 141 passes for 653 yards and four touchdowns with four interceptions. He had a season-high 255 yards against Nicholls State.
Morse utilized a redshirt in 2017 and played in one game in 2018, rushing once for a 5-yard touchdown and completing his only pass attempt for 10 yards in a blowout of Kentucky Christian.
“I want to thank Lamar for the past three years, and for everything they’ve done for me,” Morse tweeted. “But I will be continuing my college football career at Henderson State University!!”
Henderson State is located in the southwest Arkansas town of Arkadelphia, just across a ravine from Great American Conference rival Ouachita Baptist University. The Reddies, usually a perennial power in D-II, finished 5-6 overall and in GAC play.
Morse still holds PNG records for most passing yards in a game (383 vs. Clear Lake in 2014), touchdown passes in a game (6 vs. Baytown Lee in 2014, sharing record set by Dustin Long vs. Thomas Jefferson in 1999) and completions in a game (34 vs. Dayton in 2014). The 2016 PNG graduate was the school’s all-time leader in career passing yards (6,298), completions (475) and touchdown passes (70) until Roschon Johnson broke those records.
