CPSO respond to weather related fatality in Sulphur

Lake Charles – Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, responded to a one-vehicle accident on East Burton Street in Sulphur.

The investigation revealed a U-Haul truck was traveling east on Burton when a large tree uprooted thought to be due to wind and saturation of the ground from the vast amount of rainfall this morning, fell across the road and landed on the cab of the truck.

The driver, Jacob Hood, 33, was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.  The passenger, William Hood, 68, father of Jacob, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both men are from Sulphur.

CPSO Sgt. Bryan Guth is the lead investigator on this case.
