Driver apprehended following pursuit into Louisiana

PRESS RELEASE — ORANGE COUNTY, TEXAS- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers apprehend a driver who fled into Louisiana following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Orange County.

Initial reports indicate that, at approximately 12:00p.m., a DPS Trooper was working routine patrol on Interstate 10, near mile marker 871.  The Trooper observed a Toyota passenger vehicle, traveling eastbound, which appeared to be speeding.  After confirming the vehicle’s speed on radar, the Trooper activated emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.  The driver failed to stop and fled in the vehicle into Louisiana.

The driver of the Toyota, 23–year-old Jiakang Chen of Houston, stopped his vehicle, near mile marker 11, in Louisiana and was immediately taken into custody.

Chen was booked into the Calcasieu Parrish jail on the charge of evading arrest and awaits extradition back to Texas.
