Driver Flees From DPS Trooper in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, TEXAS- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers apprehend a driver who fled following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Orange County.
Initial reports indicate that a DPS Trooper was working routine patrol on Interstate 10, near mile marker 875.  The Trooper observed a silver Ford SUV make several unsafe lane changes from the access road onto the eastbound entrance ramp of the Interstate.  The Trooper activated the emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.  The Trooper made contact with the driver for a few minutes before the driver took off in the vehicle.  The driver fled in the vehicle and exited the freeway, near mile marker 872.  The driver was traveling at an unsafe speed speed and drove into a ditch on Lewis Drive.
The driver of the Ford, 33-year-old Joseph Sloan of Houston, was taken into custody by DPS Troopers and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies.
Sloan was transported to the Orange County jail without further incident and booked on the charges of evading and DWI-3rd or more.
