Red-hot Lady Tigers down Lady Cats to take Tennison title

ORANGEFIELD – Not able to slow down a red-hot Silsbee Lady Tigers unit, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats dropped a 95-60 decision to the Lady Tigers in the championship game of the Orangefield Tennison Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Tigers pulled away with a 26-8 spurt in the second quarter to lead 53-27 at intermission and never looked back.

Dakota Matthews played huge for the Lady Tigers in her small frame as she poured in a game-high 30 points. She got plenty of help from teammates as T’nya Irvin had 19 points and Emery Maze contributed 16 more.

Faith Fregia sparked the Lady Bobcats with 23 points. Joli Ponfick tallied nine points while Emmi Lummus and Jacey Bourque had eight points apiece. The Lady Tigers finished with a 36-25 rebounding edge. Akira Riley led Silsbee with eight boards while Irvin, Myjoi Hill and Brandis Bass pulled down five each.

Tatum Garlington had seven boards for the Lady Bobcats while Fregia added six.

Orangefield had 25 turnovers while Silsbee had 17. The Lady Bobcats went 4-for-8 from the free-throw line while the Lady Tigers converted 15-of-27.

The Lady Bobcats downed Beaumont West Brook 57-44 Saturday morning to reach the finals. Fregia had 15 points and five steals. Lummus contributed 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kylie Elkins had 10 points while Garlington had eight points and five boards.

West Brook went on to defeat WO-S 45-28 in the third-place game.

On Friday, the Lady Bobcats blasted Nederland 76-44.

Faith Fregia had 23 points and three steals. Kylie Elkins notched her best game ever in a Lady Bobcat uniform, scoring 20 points and added five rebounds and two steals.

Tatum Garlington chimed in with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals.
