Late surge lifts Lady Bobcats by WO-S in Tennison Tourney

ORANGEFIELD – A late surge by the Orangefield Lady Bobcats enabled them to get past the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 43-35 during the first day of action at the Tennison Tournament.

Lady Bobcats Faith Fregia and Jacey Bourque combined for 12 of the Lady Bobcats’ fourth-quarter points as they were able to fend off a strong defensive effort by the Lady Mustangs.

Orangefield led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter but the Lady Mustangs continued to scrap back and were able to trim it to 27-24 by the end of the third period.

Fregia led the Lady Bobcats with 19 points while also snagging five rebounds while Bourque added 11 points, including three three-pointers.

Jayme Deutsch led the Lady Bobcats with six rebounds while point guard Emmi Lummus played tenacious defense and had nine points.

Point guard Diamond Judge paced the Lady Mustangs with 12 points, scoring six points in each half. Marlandira Hebert and Nadua Watson added six points apiece. Lady Mustang Alissa Brown cleared the glass and finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and added five points.

The Lady Bobcats led 19-11 at intermission. WO-S got close with a 13-8 spurt in the third quarter.

The Lady Mustangs finished with a 32-25 rebounding edge. WO-S had 23 turnovers while Orangefield had 21. The Lady Bobcats were 6-of-11 from the free-throw line while the Lady Mustangs struggled mightily, going 8-of-22.

The Lady Mustangs defeated Nederland 21-19 earlier Thursday. Brown led the way with nine points while Hebert added six.
