ORANGEFIELD – It was a tough outing on the offensive end Tuesday night for the Orangefield Bobcats as they dropped a 39-32 decision to the Lumberton Raiders at Bobcat Gym.
The Bobcats kept it close but trailed after every quarter as they saw their record move to 2-2 on the young season.
The Raiders found just enough offense from sharp-shooting guard Reagan Koch to help get past the Bobcats.
Koch buried five three-pointers on the night and finished with a game-high 16 points.
Bobcat standout junior post Valentin Catt posted another double-double, tallying 14 points while snaring 11 rebounds. He scored the Bobcats’ first 12 points but didn’t get many touches in the second half and was limited to one field goal.
Lumberton also slowed down the pace of the game, especially in the second half as they chewed up a lot of clock.
The Raiders led 9-8 at the end of the first period. Koch buried two three-point bombs late in the quarter. Catt had eight points and four boards in the first quarter for Orangefield.
The Raiders outscored the Bobcats 11-8 in the second quarter to go up 20-16 at intermission. Dylan Bridgers, who finished with 10 points and six rebounds, had five points for the Raiders in the period while Catt had four more points for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats were able to trim the Raider lead to 27-24 in the third period as Kaiden DuBose had a pair of key baskets.
The Raiders, with their slow-down tactics, were able to fend off the Bobcats in the last quarter. Koch had another big three-pointer while Bridgers scored five points.
The Raiders finished with a 27-24 rebounding edge. Gabe Sonnier and Brock McClure had five rebounds apiece for Lumberton. Tyrone Waggoner and Clayson Choate had four rebounds apiece for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats had just seven turnovers while the Raiders had 10. Lumberton was just 7-of-18 from the free-throw line while the Bobcats were 5-of-8.
The Bobcats will head to the Wallis-Brazos Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
