Drug transaction leaves two shot in Vinton

A drug transaction gone bad has landed two men in the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

According to Vinton Police Detective S. Spell, on Sunday, the Vinton Police Department responded to the intersection of Gum Cove Road and Williams Road for a shooting.

Upon arrival on scene, officers located two males who sustained gunshot wounds to the hand and leg.

Both victims were assessed on scene by Acadian Ambulance Service for their injuries and were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

During a follow-up investigation, detectives learned four males met to conduct a drug transaction, which ultimately lead to the shooting.

Detectives arrested Hunter Berry, 17, of Vinton and Kordell Guillory, 21, of Lake Charles.

Berry was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Distribution/Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance Schedule I, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Obstruction of Justice.

Guillory, 21, was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Distribution/Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance Schedule I, and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon.

Both men were transported to the Calcasieu Correctional Center and arraigned by Judge Ritchie.

Berry’s Bond was set at $207,500 and Guillory’s bond was set at $200,000.

The investigation is on going by Vinton Police and more arrest are possible.
