Former West Orange-Stark standout Malick Phillips was named as the Defensive Player of the Week for the Southland Conference for the second time this campaign after helping Incarnate Word knock off Central Arkansas 40-27 on Saturday.

Phillips was all over the field for the Cardinals on Saturday. The sophomore had two of UIW’s four interceptions, which helped the Cardinals set not only a single-game record for picks, but it also gave UIW 18 interceptions on the season, which is a new single-season record. These were Phillips’ second and third picks and marked the first multi-interception game of his career. Phillips had a solo tackle and contributed three key pass breakups to help secure UIW’s victory.
