The Lutcher Theater is hosting a Kids Pajama and Blanket Drive November 5-20 benefiting The Salvation Army of Orange County in celebration of A Christmas Story, The Musical kicking off their tour in Orange.

Patrons attending A Christmas Story, The Musical November 19 or 20 can participate by bringing new pajamas for kids ranging from newborns to teens and blankets to the show. Community members can donate items at the Lutcher Theater during office hours Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The inspiration of the kid’s pajama and blanket drive came from the iconic pink bunny pajama scene when 9-year-old Ralphie eagerly opens his gift from Aunt Clara only to become embarrassed by the “girly” pajamas. Children might experience the same disappointment when they do not have pajamas or a blanket to call their own.

“Many times all they [the children] get is a toy or two and don’t get to enjoy in the excitement of a new pair of Christmas Pajamas or a new warm blanket! So we are excited about partnering with the Lutcher Theater to be able to provide as many of those kids with a new set of Christmas Pajamas and a warm blanket this year!” The Salvation Army of Orange County, Captain Jan Zuniga said.

A small donation of pajamas for children of all ages and blankets can make a big difference for local families in need during the holiday season.

“This Christmas we will be helping to provide for approximately 400 children from the Orange County area through our ANGEL TREE program!” Zuniga said, “Through the program, we try to personalize the help given to each child as much as possible…by not just collecting the child’s age and sex, but also their clothing sizes, an item of need, and a wish for Christmas! Then we look for individuals around the community who would be willing to adopt those children and shop for them.”
