HOOP ROUNDUP: Lady Bobcats, Cardinals open season with nice wins

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats kicked off their 2018-19 basketball season off with a big win, defeating the Lumberton Lady Raiders 47-44 at Bobcat Gym Tuesday night.

Jacey Bourque powered the Lady Bobcats with a double-double, scoring 14 points, swiping 10 big steals and dishing off four assists.

Joli Ponfick picked up 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Tatum Garlington chimed in with 12 points and three boards. Jayme Deutsch yanked down 14 rebounds while Lacy Leach had five rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Bobcats compete in the Lumberton Tournament Thursday through Saturday.

 

BC girls

TARKINGTON — The Bridge City Lady Cardinals went on the road and snagged a 48-42 victory over the Tarkington Lady Longhorns Tuesday night as first-year head coach Lance Robertson got a win in the opener.

The Lady Cardinals outscored the Lady Longhorns 25-17 in the second half to nail down the win.

Caitlin Denison and Hannah Wiegreffe scored eight points apiece for the Lady Cardinals while Madison Fischer yanked down 13 rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals will visit Evadale Thursday.

 

LC-M girls

Juniors Mollee Priddy and Maylin Stampley scored in double figures, and Port Neches-Groves began the girls basketball season with a 47-35 winner over Little Cypress-Mauriceville at The Reservation on Tuesday.

Priddy scored 17 points and Stampley had 14 for the Indians. Chelsea Carrillo and Harlee Barnwell each scored six points, and Shelby Letulle and Britney Brevell wrapped up the scoring with two each.

The Lady Bears will host East Chambers Nov. 16
