Shively passes Falcons past Bears, 26-12

HUFFMAN — Huffman quarterback Justin Shively passed for 256 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Falcons past the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears 26-12 at Huffman High School Friday night.

The Falcons (4-5, 2-2) dominated the first half of play as they took a 26-6 lead into the half against the Bears (3-6, 2-2).

Huffman finished with 452 total yards, 256 in the air and 196 on the ground.

Shively completed 13-of-26 passes and was picked off once. Falcon tailback A.J. San Miguel cut through the Bear defense for 176 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries while receiver Aaron Johnson had four catches for 104 yards and a pair of scores.

LC-M quarterback Adam Pope completed 12-of-24 passes for 123 yards and rushed for 104 yards and a TD on 15 carries. Receiver James Williams had three catches for 58 yards while Brendon Pollock snared five receptions for 50 yards.

The Falcons went up 6-0 with 10:26 left in the first quarter when Shively connected with Johnson on a 73-yard bomb.

The Bears evened things up with 9:28 in the first when tailback Landon Bearden broke free for a 16-yard TD gallop.

The Falcons countered right back when Shively found Johnson again, this time from 17 yards, to make it 12-6 with 6:35 in the first.

Huffman scored again late in the first quarter when Miguel scooted into the end zone from nine yards out to put the Falcons up 20-6 with 1:18 in the quarter.

The Falcons scored again just before the half when Shively teamed up with Luke Thomas on a 44-yard scoring toss.

The Bears added the final score of the night when Pope scooted into the end zone from five yards out with 0:52 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bears will take on Lumberton (5-4, 3-1) at home next week while Huffman visits Livingston (0-9, 0-4).
