PRESS RELEASE — Lake Charles, LA – On November 1 at approximately 10 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local motel located on Highway 90 in Lake Charles in reference to a baby being left on a second floor balcony alone.  When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the child’s mother, Shaila A. Walker, 18, Amite, LA, was supposed to be taking care of the 8 month old baby girl.  The baby’s father stated he left the motel and was walking to a nearby store when he observed Walker leaving the motel and yelling at him to go get his child.

A short time later deputies made contact with Walker when she arrived back at the motel and she was transported to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for questioning.   When detectives spoke with Walker she stated she left the child unattended on the balcony to go to McDonalds, and returned approximately 10 minutes later.  She was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and is charged with child desertion.  Her bond is still pending.

CPSO Deputy Sr. Cpl. Joshua Francis is the arresting deputy on this case.  CPSO Detectives Ben Hare and Shelley Trahan are the lead investigators on this case.
