HUFFMAN — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears will look to solidify their playoff seeding Friday night when they hit the long road for the second week in a row as they visit the Huffman Falcons Friday night in District 11-4A Division I play.

After suffering a tough 38-34 home loss to Splendora, the Bears bounced back last week with a 21-0 shutout over last-place Livingston.

Meanwhile, the Falcons (3-4, 1-2) look to get things back in gear after a 20-6 road loss at Splendora last week.

Huffman dropped its 11-4A opener 38-31 to Lumberton in overtime and then bounced back to defeat Bridge City 41-16 for their lone 11-4A victory.

The Bears have definitely been riding the hot hand of senior quarterback Adam Pope. Pope, who had a 300-yard passing night against Splendora, has tossed 10 touchdown passes in his last four games as the LC-M offense has found its groove.

Pope has been blessed with a excellent receiving group that includes the likes of James Williams, Brendon Pollock, Darien Williams and Seth Carpenter.

Kristian Ickes and Landon Bearden both are producing well from the tailback spot of late.

The Falcons definitely like to mix up the run and the pass. Huffman quarterback Justin Shively has been a solid leader and has a good arm. Huffman passed for four touchdowns in their big win over Bridge City but struggled to get it going on the road at Splendora last week.

Huffman has some explosive receivers in the forms of Aaron Johnson, A.J. San Miguel, Talon Hair and Austin Niles. The Falcons will try to keep the Bear defense off balance with the hard-nosed running of tailback Noah Zamora.

A win could go a long ways for the Bears as they could have an even bigger showdown with Lumberton back at Battlin’ Bear Stadium next week. Huffman will travel to Livingston next week.

In other 11-4A games Friday night, Lumberton (5-3, 3-0) will host Splendora (7-1, 3-0) with the winner gaining sole possession of first-place while Bridge City (1-7, 0-3) will host Livingston (0-8, 0-3) as both those teams seek their first 11-4A victory.
