LIVINGSTON — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears played stout defense on the road Friday night as they kept the Lions winless on the season with a 21-0 victory.

The win pushes the Bears to 3-5 overall but more importantly 2-1 in 11-4A play. They are currently in third-place, just a game back of Lumberton (5-3, 3-0) and Splendora (7-1, 3-0).

Lumberton blanked Bridge City (1-7, 0-3) 34-0 Friday night while Splendora dispatched Huffman (3-5, 1-2) 20-6.

The Bears will visit Huffman next week while Lumberton hosts Splendora in a battle for first-place.

Both teams put together strong defensive efforts in the first half as the Bears went into intermission with a 7-0 cushion. Quarterback Adam pope found receiver James Williams on a 34-yard scoring toss with 4:30 left in the first quarter.

The Bears added some breathing room in the third quarter on a Pope five-yard touchdown jaunt.

LC-M finished the scoring on a Darien Williams six-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth.

The Bears will remain on the road next week as they travel to Huffman to face the Falcons while the Lions travel to Bridge City to face the Cardinals.
