Lady Bobcats scoot past Anahuac, now 11-1 in district

ORANGEFIELD – Making a clean sweep of the Anahuac Lady Panthers at Bobcat Gym Tuesday night, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats improved their District 22-3A record to a stout 11-1 and are just one win shy of picking up their 30th victory.

The Lady Panthers fought the Lady Bobcats (29-8) hard but Orangefield pulled away late in each game to snag the sweep, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18.

The Lady Bobcats finished with 32 kills on the night, doubling the Lady Panthers’ total of 16.

Lady Bobcat standout Bailee Click almost had as many kills as the entire Anahuac team as she piled up 15 of them. Devany Crain had seen kills while Faith Fregia had five, Madison Greenway three and Lily Saucedo two for the Lady Bobcats.

Martina Cadoree led the Lady Panthers with seven kills while Morgan Rose and Jamaya Kirkwood added three apiece.

Game One was nip-and-tuck throughout as the Lady Bobcats held just a 19-18 edge but pulled away with a 6-1 surge at the end, sparked by Click.

Anahuac led Game Two 8-7 but it was short-lived. Orangefield finished the game off with a 18-6 spurt.

The Lady Bobcats went on a 6-0 run late in Game Three to pull away at 24-14 and then held off a late Anahuac rally.

Orangefield piled up 44 points in their service game.

Crain had 11 points and an ace. Fregia notched 10 points and two aces. Mackenzie Davis collected seven points and two aces while Saucedo added seven points.

Davis led the way with 17 assists while Tiffany Ciangalione added 10. Saucedo finished with 25 digs while Davis and Fregia had 10 apiece.

Cadoree led the Lady Panthers, who scored just 20 points off their service game, with five points and two aces. Rose had four points and two aces and Sydney Bertrand had four points and an ace.

The Lady Bobcats are alone in second-place in the district standings with their only loss coming at the hands of the Hardin Lady Hornets, who are 12-0. The Lady Bobcats will play host to Hardin Friday and will close the regular season at home next Tuesday against third-place Buna.
