PRESS RELEASE — The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is working a bad scam. A lady received a call and written communication from people who identified themselves as being from Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. They advised her that she had won 2.6 million dollars.

They told her that in order to receive the money, she would have to pay the taxes up front. The tax amount was $180,000.00

We have contacted the FBI and are looking forward to working with them on this case.

We are asking everyone to please seek advise from us or a family member before responding in any way to this kind of notice where you have won something valuable.

Sheriff Billy Rowles is asking families to discuss this type of incident with other family members to make sure it doesn’t happen to them.
