PRESS RELEASE — At approximately 7:45 AM on Thursday, October 11, 2018, the Vidor Police Department received a call of a major accident on the EB IH-10 Service road near FM 1132. The investigation showed that a passenger van was traveling EB on the EB service road of IH-10 near S. Lakeside. A City of Vidor sanitation truck was stopped in the outside lane picking up trash cans. The sun was obstructing the view of the EB drivers. The driver of the van saw the trash truck at the last moment and attempted to change lanes striking the sanitation truck in the rear. Fortunately, both occupants were restrained with the driver and a 2 year old child in the rear seat that was in a child safety seat. Both occupants were transported to Christus St. Elizabeth ER by Acadian Ambulance Service with non-life threatening injuries.

The Vidor Police Department believes that the damage to the vehicle and the lack of significant injuries demonstrates the importance of seatbelts and child restraint safety seats.
