Knauf named Interim City Manager

City of Orange Director of Planning and Community Development Kelvin Knauf was named as Interim City Manager after an extended closed session on Tuesday morning.

Knauf will take over after Dr. Shawn Oubre leaves. Oubre has taken a position as City Manager in Woodway, Texas.

Knauf’s salary will be a salary of $150,000 a year beginning Oct. 13, 2018.

Mayor Larry Spears Jr. thanked Knauf for accepting the position.

“Thank you for helping us out,” Spears said.

Knauf received his BA at the University of Kansas in 1978 and his MPA in 1981.

He also has a long history of working as a city manager in several cities since 1980.

From 1980-1984 he was Administrative Assistant in Fort Worth.

Knauf was Assistant City Manager in Grapevine, Texas from 1984-1990.

He spent five months as Support Svcs Adminstrator in Arlington before heading to Spearman as City Manager from 1991-1997.

From there he was City Manager in Lago Vista from 1997-2001. Then just over a year as City Manager in Corinth.

Moving on to be City Manager ay Port Aransas from 2003-2004.

From there Knauf was Interim Finance Director for League City from 2004-2005.

In 2005, he was the Asst. City Manager in Baytown until 2008.

In 2009 he became the City Manager of Rockdale, Texas until 2014.

He is also a member of International City/County Management Assn. and Texas City Management Assn.
