The Orange Leader

Representing Firestone Polymers chili cook-off team ‘Something’s Burning’ was named the Chemical Row Chili Cookoff winner on Thursday.

The inaugural event was held at the Dow-DuPont Business Center (formerly DERA) as a way to help raise funds for the United Way of Orange County.

United Way of Orange County is currently in its annual campaign to raise funds for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Chemical Row Chili Cookoff raised $1,700 for the non-profit organization that helps over 20 agencies, which assist Orange County residents.

With ten teams as contestants this year, the competition was tough among the chili chefs and tougher on the judges as they had to select the one team with the best chili.

‘Something’s Burning’ Chili Chef David Leblanc stressed concerns during the competition.

“I did not want to make it too hot because not everyone likes hot chili,” Leblanc said.

His technique paid off.

The teams which participated were:

  • Firestone’s Astro Chili Pros
  • Firestone Polymers Something’s Burning
  • Firestone 200 Area Production 2HOT4U
  • Arlanxeo
  • Brown and Root Chili Masters
  • Chevron Phillips Maintenance
  • DuPont CSD Team
  • Firestone 200 Area Production 2HOT4U
  • INVISTA Do You Want Chili with Your Beans?
  • INVISTA PRD Busters
