CC ROUNDUP: LC-M’s Peveto sets personal-best mark; OF competes well in Liberty

AUSTIN — Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior Eli Peveto ran a personal-best time of 15:36.04 in a Austin State Preview Saturday morning at McNeil Park.

Eli was one of 680 runners in the race that also featured Class 6A and 5A runners.

Peveto will look to defend the District 22-4A crown he has won the last three seasons Oct. 9 at Claiborne Park in Vidor.

 

LIBERTY — The Orangefield Cross Country team ran well over the weekend at the Liberty Cross Country Meet.

Despite being under the weather, Lady Bobcat Maddison Helm finished second in the varsity 4A-and-Under two-mile course, running a 12:52.2. Her sister Katelynn Helm was sixth overall with a 13:28.1 followed by teammates Draven Crochet (47th, 15:39.8), Bailee Click (52nd, 16:00.00), Mackenzie Davis (57th, 16:08.0), Adriana Fracis (68th, 16:44.1), Victoria Welch (74th, 17:31.6) and McClane Downs (78th, 18:17.7).

For the Bobcat boys, freshman Payton Wrinkle was fourth in the 4A-and Under 5k, running a 18:05.1. He was followed by teammates Cody Strause (13th, 19:21.9), Dylan Wells (38th, 21:17.3), Bryce Moore (44th, 21:36.2), Dakota Williford (46th, 21:41.0), Diego Baca (58th, 22:12.9), Brandon Scogin (59th, 22:13.9), Brayden Babin (60th, 22:16.6) and Gavin Scott ( 98th, 25.33.4).

The Bobcat teams are preparing for the District 22-3A Championships, which will be held Oct. 10 at Wildwood Country Club in Warren.
