PRESS RELEASE — On Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at approximately 3:50 p.m. Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a 14-year-old male juvenile stating that he was a run a way and wanted to turn himself in. The juvenile told the Newton County 911 operator that he was at the Conoco gas station on Hwy 12 at the Texas-Louisiana state line.

Sgt. Barry Laird responded to the 911 call and located the missing juvenile. Dispatch notified Sgt. Laird that the child had been missing for almost three months out of Kaplan, Louisiana. Sgt. Laird transported the missing run a way to the Newton Sheriff’s Office. Kaplan Police Department was notified and later picked up the run a way and returned him to their agency. The juvenile appeared to be healthy and in good spirits.
