Lockdown in VISD, students not in danger

PRESS RELEASE — This morning at approximately 8:00, an individual was noticed taking a shortcut through Vidor ISD property in the vicinity of Vidor Elementary and Oak Forest Elementary.

Upon noticing the individual, a school employee notified Vidor ISD Police Chief, Mike Sanchez, who immediately responded. A search revealed that he had prohibited items in a backpack.

There was an arrest and he was transported to Orange County Jail.

This person was not approaching a school and there was no danger to students.

While the issue was being addressed, Vidor Elementary and Oak Forest were on temporary lockdown.  There is no indication that the person intended to enter a campus or posed a threat to the safety of our students and staff.
