Lady Cats make quick work of Lady Bucs

ORANGEFIELD – There is no question about it, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats are for real on the volleyball court as their new District 22-3A opponents are finding out in the early going of district play.

The Lady Bobcats (22-7, 4-0) remained perfect in 22-3A action Tuesday night at Bobcat Gym as they strolled past the East Chambers Lady Buccaneers 25-13, 25-21, 25-20.

The Lady Bobcats used their depth, timely hitting and stout service game to cruise past the Lady Bucs (1-3 in district).

Orangefield piled up 37 kills while East Chambers had 26. The Lady Bobcats had 43 service points to go along with nine aces. The Lady Bucs had 22 service points and three aces.

Bailee Click led a balanced Lady Bobcat effort at the net, finishing with a match-high 10 kills. Devany Crain notched nine kills while Faith Fregia and Madison Greenway added seven apiece.

Brooke Charpiot paced the Lady Bucs with eight kills while Lexi Booze and Montana Mitchell had five apiece and Quincy Wilcox added four.

Crain served up 11 points and an ace for Orangefield. Mackenzie Davis, who set up the offense well, had seven points and two aces. Click had six points and an ace. Tiffany Cianglione and Lily Saucedo each had five points and an ace.

Booze had eight points and two aces for the Lady Bucs while Tori Forman added six points and three kills.

The Lady Bobcats led Game One 8-6 but Crain put together nine straight service points and the hitting of Click and Greenway sparked the big run as the Lady Bobcats pulled away.

Game Two was nip-and-tuck throughout as the Lady Bucs pulled to within 21-19 late only to see the Lady Bobcats stroll away with four of the last six points.

Orangefield jumped out to a 20-11 cushion in Game Three only to see the Lady Bucs rally to within 20-16 with five straight points but the Lady Bobcats were able to persevere to remain perfect in 22-3A play.

The Lady Bobcats visit Anahuac Friday and then the schedule really gets amped up with two straight matches against state ranked teams.

The Lady Bobcats visit Hardin next Tuesday and will head to Buna Sept. 28. In the latest Texas High School Girls Coaches Association Class 3A state poll Buna is ranked No. 6 and Hardin is right behind them at No. 7.
