Major wreck shuts down FM 2802 in Vidor

UPDATE: All eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of FM 2802 have reopened following an earlier crash.

A multiple vehicle wreck at 10 a.m. Friday morning has shut down Farm to Market Road 2802 near Texla Road in North Vidor until further notice.

The crash involves a motorcycle and a pickup truck according to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on Farm to Market Road 2802.  The driver of the Chevrolet slowed to make a left turn into a private driveway when the vehicle was rear-ended by a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old man from Vidor, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn at the scene.  His identity will not be released until next of kin has been identified.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 39-year-old man from Orange, was not injured.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling in the area of Texla Road in North Vidor.

All eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of Farm to Market Road 2802, near Texla Road, are closed due to the investigation.

There is no time estimation as to when the roadway will reopen.

Motorists are urged to find an alternate travel route.  Expect delays.
