JASPER – The Jasper Bulldogs took down the Bridge City Cardinals convincingly, 45-7 in non-district action in Jasper Friday night.

The Jasper run game produced over 350 yards on the ground, with Mon Tavian Hunt accounting for over 200 yards alone.

Hunt just needed six carries to amount 220 yards all by himself, a major reason the Bulldogs (2-0) jumped out to a big lead quick over the Cardinals (0-2).

Bridge City entered Friday’s game versus Jasper with something to prove, after a disappointing loss to Diboll in week one of the season.

The young Cardinals are still looking for improvement as they look to produce some more points before district starts after scoring just 14 points the first two weeks after last week’s 42-7 loss at Diboll.

They will look to regroup when they get to play at home for the first time this season next week when Anahuac visits Ward Stadium.

Jasper started out as hot as it could with a one-play, 66-yard run by Hunt out of the backfield. After the two-point conversion by Hunt, the Bulldogs went up 8-0 early in the first quarter.

After stopping the Cardinals on defense, the Bulldogs ran another long play for a second touchdown by Hunt. This time he only ran for 56 yards and the score. After the PAT the Bulldogs went up 14-0 early in the first quarter still.

Three times was a pattern, and the Bulldogs have a pattern of scoring in one play. The next time Deandre Lambrick broke the long run on the left outside for 44 yards with the exact same play for a touchdown. After the PAT the Bulldogs went up 21-0 still in the first quarter.

In the killer first quarter, the Bulldogs snared another score with a 65-yard touchdown gallop from Hunt again as the running back remained on fire and also getting good blocks up front. After the PAT went through the Bulldogs led 28-0 with about three minutes left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs would score on their next drive as well, this time needing a few more plays to get the job done. Will Bluitt would run in for a one-yard touchdown this time. After the PAT the Bulldogs were up 35-0 early in the second quarter.

Bulldog quarterback Colin Womack lit up the air game with a touchdown pass from 37 yards out to Bryce Barbay, who zipped through the Cardinal defense with some nice moves. After the PAT the Bulldogs were up 42-0 and solidly in command.

The Bulldogs would put together another productive offensive drive but ended in three points this time, but only because of the half ending. Between Womack hitting his passes and the solid run game from Jasper, the Bulldogs would rush for 343 yards in just the first half. Most of that thanks to Hunt, who burst past the Cardinal defense.

Jasper finished with 439 total yards for the night while the Cardinals had 243.

The Bulldogs ended the first half up 45-0 in what was an offensive showcase.

The third quarter would be quiet as the Bulldogs don’t find points, but kept the Cardinals off the board as well as the score remained 45-0 at the end of the quarter.

Bridge City would finally score late into the fourth quarter, for the first time all night thanks to Trenton Legrout on the ground, producing 45 yards alone on the drive. After the PAT the Cardinals were still down 45-7 but avoided the shutout.

Fullback Andy Lara led the Cardinal offense with 83 yards on 16 carries. Legrout had 49 yards on four carries. Rylan Ply had 40 yards on five totes and Gavin Villanueva had 12 carries for 35 yards.
