LIVINGSTON — There is no doubt that the Orangefield Bobcats have gotten off to a flying start this season as they have outscored their first two opponents by a 102-0 count, including a 41-0 demolition of the Livingston Lions on the road Friday night.

This comes after a 61-0 blowout of Houston KIPP Generations Collegiate last week.

The Bobcats (2-0) controlled the game early against the Lions (0-2), who dropped a 68-7 decision to Shepherd in their opener.

Orangefield defensive back Clayson Choate got the Bobcats going on the right foot against the Lions when he picked off a pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown with 9:07 remaining in the first quarter. And Mr. Choate wasn’t quite done yet.

With 4:24 left in the first quarter, Bobcat back Heston Puckett tore through the Lion defense on his way to a 47-yard touchdown jaunt to up the margin to 12-0.

Just 18 seconds later, Choate made the Lions pay again when he scooped up a fumble and dashed to the end zone from 22 yards out to make it 19-0 with 4:06 in the quarter.

Orangefield senior quarterback Mason Gonzales made it 26-0 with a five-yard keeper and the Bobcats added a safety right before the half to go up 28-0.

Gonzales tallied his second touchdown of the night when he bolted to the end zone for a 18-yard score with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter.

Bobcat speedster Quy Tsan got into the act with 4:29 left in the game when he darted 33 yards for the night’s final touchdown.

Friday’s battle with Livingston was the first of three straight road games for the Bobcats.

Orangefield will visit Shepherd next week. The Bobcats have a bye Sept. 21 before opening District 12-3A Division I play on the road at old rival Buna.
