LTTE: September is National Recovery Month

Published 6:59 am Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Come join your fellow community members in celebrating everyone in recovery on September 29, 2018 in Kiwanis Park from 10:00am to 2:00pm. There will be free lunch provided to all who attend our celebration of recovery. Activities such as pony rides, a rock wall, face painting and much more will also be available free of charge. This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.” Recovery from addiction or mental illness is a tremendous accomplishment worthy of celebration by everyone.

The saying “it takes a village” does not just apply to raising someone, but it also applies to helping someone through addiction and mental illness. According to the 2018 Regional Needs Assessment, in region 5, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council’s Outreach, Screening, And, Referral Program (OSAR) documented 1,442 people in need of substance abuse treatment from 2017-2018. For someone to rise above their illness, it takes the support of family, friends, and the community. Through collaboration between health care, policy makers, social service agencies, community, media and many more we can bring awareness that recovery is possible. Come out and join us all to celebrate and join the voices for recovery. Remember, “it takes a village.” For more information, contact the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) or the Region 5 PRC at 936-634-5753.
