Man steals bus, additional charges pending

PRESS RELEASE — At 12:08 AM on Saturday, August 18th, 2018, the Lake Charles Police Department was assigned to a trailer park in the 2900 block of Broad Street in reference to a hit and run. Witnesses advised an unknown white male in a Hotard bus struck a few trailers and a utility pole. It was learned this bus had been stolen from the Vinton area. The suspect fled the area on foot.

A short time later, a second bus (plant workers transport bus) was stolen from the Chenault area. Patrol Officers saw this vehicle at Broad Street and Pamco Road and made an effort to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended at West Prien Lake Road and Hollyhill Road, where the suspect lost control of the stolen bus, left the roadway, and struck a building.

At 1:11 AM, Officers arrested Todd Gregory Bonamo, 40, residing in Abbeville, LA. Bonamo is charged with aggravated flight from Officers and illegal possession of stolen things. Additional charges may be pending. At the time of this media release, a bond has not been set.

Among the Officers assisting in the above investigations are Officers Bret Dommert, Officer Samuel Clouse, and Corporal David Bray.
