Special Angels Rodeo Link Sale

The Special Angels Rodeo annual sack lunch sale will be Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Farmers Mercantile. This year’s sale will be a little different because you will have the option of a link or boudain. “Getting Better” Grief Group

Participants for Scrapbook Study Wanted
If you are 18 years of age or older, you can help The Portal top Texas History improve the way it digitize scrapbooks by participating in a research study examining how patrons prefer scrapbooks to be digitized and represented online. Participants will engage in a paper prototyping exercise that will last no longer than one hour. Those who complete a study session will receive a Portal to Texas History t-shirt (valued at $10) in appreciation of their participation. Golden K Kiwanis meeting

Golden K Kiwanis will host Katie Durio, Executive Director, Stable Spirits, located in Rose City. The non-profit, Stable Spirits, uses horses to help those with special needs.  Apparently, the horses teach those who like horses how to do things, with horses serving as therapists. Durio, retired with a Licensed Master’s of Social Work, now spends her days as facilitator of Stable Spirits.  Come hear her speak about this astounding program from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army Building meeting room, corner of MLK and Strickland, across from the Shell station, on Wed., Aug. 8.

Best Practices for Nonprofits

Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center presents Best Practices for Nonprofits 9 a.m. – 12 Noon at United Way of Orange County located at 1506 West Park Ave. in Orange. Nonprofits will gain an understanding of successful budgeting, forms needed to file to maintain funding and nonprofit status, exempt and nonexempt employee status and overtime, policies and employee handbooks and best board practices. Friends of the Orange Depot meeting

The next meeting of the Friends of the Orange Depot will be held at the Orange Train Depot Museum, 1210 Green Avenue, on Thursday, August 9, 5p.m. for reception, 5:30 p.m. meeting.  All board members and volunteers are encouraged to invite friends or associates to come and learn about the upcoming projects and goals of the organization. Help is needed for fall projects and museum planning.

Back to School Drive

We Believe it Takes a Village, a non-profit organization, is hosting a back to school drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations and school supplies will be accepted. This event will be located at Thayer Dance Academy at 1201 North 16th Street in Orange.
