NWS Lake Charles weather update: Fri 7.6.18

Published 11:57 am Friday, July 6, 2018

The National Weather Service is expecting a wet pattern across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana this weekend.  This is due to a tropical wave that will be moving through the northern Gulf over the next several days.  Most of the activity each day is likely from mid afternoon through the evening hours.  Rain amounts will average 1-3 inches but over 5 inches of rain will possible over some areas. On Saturday, the highest likelihood for localized flooding will be over central Louisiana and lower Acadiana.   On Sunday, the threat will be areawide.
In the tropics, Beryl has become a hurricane over the south central Atlantic.  However, it is forecasted to weaken significantly this weekend before reaching Caribbean. A low pressure area well offshore from the Carolinas may develop into a tropical depression this weekend.  Neither of these systems are forecasted to impact our area.
