McCoy’s Building Supply, located at 4514 West Lutcher Drive in Orange, wants to become more involved in the community.

“We were discussing community involvement and came together as a store for a school supply drive,” Store Manager Tyler Montgomery said.

Montgomery recently transferred to the Orange store from Lumberton.

With several plans for future involvement, the first course of action is a School Supply Drive to help out area school districts, especially those recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

“Our goal is to gather enough to help multiple districts,” Montgomery said.

At this time, Orangefield ISD, which is facing starting the 2018-2019 school year with students attending classes in trailers, is at the top of the list.

“We want to help the community out,” Montgomery said.

The business wanted to help residents immediately following the storm and did so by changing the hours of the store to 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday.

“In October, we may change the hours to 6 p.m. for the winter,” Montgomery said.

In the meantime, while one is shopping for new countertops or sheetrock, they can also drop off school supplies in a green plastic bin located in the center of the store.

“The schools were hurt in Harvey and we want to help,” Montgomery said.
