Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Texas Man

CALCASIEU PARISH – A Texas man has been arrested after refusing to stop his vehicle for a State Trooper this afternoon.

Shortly after noon on May 19, 2018, a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D observed a 2017 Hyundai Accent commit a traffic violation on I-10 Eastbound west of Sulphur. The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Travis Salvador Chavira of Victoria, Texas, refused to stop and led Troopers on a pursuit lasting 33 minutes in the Sulphur and Vinton areas before spike strips were successfully deployed.

Chavira was taken into custody and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for speeding, flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, false accounting, and resisting an officer.

One Trooper received minor injuries as a result of the incident and was treated at a local hospital.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sulphur Police Department, and Vinton Police Department assisted with the pursuit.
