Good Samaritans aid Vidor PD in foot chase

PRESS RELEASE — On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at approximately 9:57 PM, the Vidor Police Department received a phone call from the Walmart located at 1360 N. Main, Vidor, Texas in reference to a theft in progress. The caller advised dispatch that a white -male was attempting to return merchandise that he had removed from a shelf inside the store. While attempting to detain this individual, the white male attempted to elude the loss prevention officer and other employees by running from the store. During this process he ran over and knocked over an employee and shopper raising the theft charge to a robbery charge.

As the responding officer was arriving, he saw the suspect running from the store. The officer gave chase as well as 2 good Samaritans. The officer found the suspect attempting to hide along a fence-line by a residence. When the officer told him to stop, the suspect jumped over the fence to avoid the officer. The suspect was found lying on the other side of the fence with an ankle and scrotum injury. The suspect was detained by the officer and brought back to Walmart.

He was admitted into the hospital with an ankle injury and bruised scrotum. Detectives will be following up in obtaining a warrant. The suspects name is being with-held pending the warrant and on-going investigation.
