LUFKIN — The Lufkin Hudson Lady Hornets jumped out early and then held on to eliminate the Orangefield Lady Bobcats from the playoffs with a 4-3 victory in Game Two of their Class 4A Region III bidistrict series.

Odette Lopez got the win on the mound for the Lady Hornets (23-6) as she pitched 6 1/3 innings, collecting seven strikeouts while allowing six hits and three walks.

The Lady Hornets trailed 1-0 after the top of the first when Orangefield senior Kaylee Ancelot, finishing a great run as a Lady Bobcat with two hits on the night, crushed a solo home run blast over the leftfield fence.

The Lady Hornets were able to get the momentum back by scoring four unanswered runs as they got RBIs from Lopez, Campbell Selman and Hannah Blackwell to snag a three-run cushion.

However, the Lady Bobcats scrambled back in the top of the seventh after a Karlye Bramblett hit and a walk to Ancelot. Freshman Ryden Stanfield came up big with a two-run double to make it a one-run game.

Lady Hornet ace Payton Foster, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter in the 4-0 Game One win at Orangefield Thursday, was able to come in to relief and was able to get the last two Bobcat outs.

The Lady Hornets will now move on to face Tarkington in the area round next week.
