ORANGEFIELD — Riding the arm of Payton Foster and a big three-run fourth inning, the Lufkin Lady Hornets toppled the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 4-0 in Game One of the Class 4A Region III bidistrict playoff series Thursday night at Lady Bobcat Field.

Foster tossed a complete-game one-hitter and finished with eight strikeouts and no walks for the Lady Hornets (22-6), the District 21-4A champions.

The Lady Hornets struck for four hits and took advantage of a couple Lady Bobcat errors in the field to tally three runs in the top of the fourth.

Game Two of the series shifts to Lufkin Hudson High School Friday at 6 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

Kaylee Ancelot worked five innings for the Lady Bobcats (21-11-1), allowing seven hits with no strikeouts or walks. Codie Sorge tossed two innings, allowing one hit while fanning one.

Foster got it going for the Lady Hornets in the top of the fourth when she slapped a one-out single past third. Grace Fountain put down a nice sacrifice bunt to push courtesy runner Hanna Allen to second.

Odette Lopez sent a rocket RBI double to right to plate Allen.

After Tashia Bell reached on an error, Lindsay Mullins scored Lopez with a single to right to make it 2-0.

Makayla Oliphant reached on an infield single to load the bases and Amzee Gerrard reached on an error as courtesy runner Kelly Rhodes raced in to score.

The Lady Hornets snared a run in the top of the fifth frame when Campbell Selman, who had two hits on the night, doubled to deep left. She was able to move to third on a deep flyout to centerfield by Foster and scored when Fountain hit a RBI groundout to third base.

Lady Bobcat centerfielder Kristin Broussard was Orangefield’s only baserunner of the game when she ripped a single to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the sixth,
