LC-M’s Burke makes State Golf as a freshman

HUNTSVILLE — Little Cypress-Mauriceville freshman Jack Burke’s magical first season as a Bear continued Tuesday as the youngster punched his ticket to the Class 4A State Golf Tournament by placing second at the 4A Region III Meet at Ravens Nest in Huntsville.

Burke fired a superb 74 in round two Tuesday after collecting a solid 76 on Monday to finish with a 150.

Madisonville’s Sam Bennett won the tournament with an even score after firing 71 both days for a two-round score of 142.

There were 83 golfers in the field. Huffman’s Austin Douglas was third with a (77-80) 157.

The LC-M boys finished eighth among 14 teams in the team standings with a 734 (371-363) Madisonville won the team title with a 669 (327-342)

Behind Burke for the Bears included Jack Tindel 181 (98-83), Mason Sterling 201 (99-102) Wyatt Wozniak 202 (98-104), and Travis Love (240 (123-117).

Bridge City’s Blaze Montagne fired a 87 and a 104 for a 191 and Orangefield’s Logan Risinger fired a 92 and a 81 for a 173.
