LC-M’s Burke stands in 2nd after day one of Regional golf

HUNTSVILLE — Little Cypress-Mauriceville freshman Jack Burke is on the quest for qualifying for the Class 4A State Golf Tournament and he had a solid round on day one at the Class 4A Region III Golf Championships at Raven Nest Monday.

Burke is currently in second-place with a 76.

Madisonville’s Sam Bennett currently has a five-stroke lead after he fired a 71.

There are 83 golfers in the field. Huffman’s Austin Douglas is third after a 77.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday.

The LC-M boys are ninth among 14 teams in the team standings with a 371 in round one.

Madisonville (327) leads the team standings followed by Gatesville (339) and Huffman (342).

Behind Burke for the Bears included Jack Tindel (98), Wyatt Wozniak (98), Mason Sterling (99) and Travis Love (123).

Bridge City’s Blaze Montagne fired a 87 and is in a tie for 16th and Orangefield’s Logan Risinger fired a 92 and is tied for 21st.
