1 Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

 

I love ALL of the feedback I receive on the post; it is certainly my prayer that you look forward to reading it weekly.

So, thank you for reading, sending feedback, and/or allowing me the opportunity to meet you in person! “Awesome!” Or, as the millennials would say, “Cool beans!”

I spend so much time with young people, I think the better part of my day is mentally translating millennial thoughts and slang into a professional dialogue, and I do pretty good!

7.53 Billion! That’s how many people are in the world.

Of that, only one is named MaQuettia! What a luxury! In this case my name distinguishes me, but my hope is that my life would, as well. It took me many years to appreciate my name, because people would often mispronounce it or have a mini melt down attempting to.

Growing up as a child I remember the anxiety I felt every time I met a new teacher via roll call; and God forbid the teacher is absent and I have to go through the awkwardness of correcting a substitute; explaining it is Ma-Quet-ta not Margarita!

I would eventually give value to THE name. I share a lot about reforming, reformatting, and embracing a new culture because we live in such a cookie cutter society that we often run from the things that distinguish us, and hide in the crowd of the things we share in common.

Greatness distinguishes us, and if greatness is to be attached to your name it will not be by accident. The character and favor of God distinguishes us. When I think about all the great things happening in my life, it is indeed the favor of God advancing, surrounding, and protecting my life, uniqueness, purpose, and authenticity.

Verse one of this chapter starts with Peter encouraging readers to get rid of all the junk, a list that consists of: all evil behavior, deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. When you are happy and content within there is no room for these things. You can be imperfect and content with the fact that you’re being processed daily, all while being patient with others.

This week write your name, below it write what makes you different, and finally decide to embrace it! Peter is simply stating, get rid of the junk and get to that beautiful, set apart place in God. Blessings!
