22-4A District track: OF girls, BC boys in 1st after field events; LC-M’s Weatherly wins two events

WEST ORANGE — It was quite a showing for Orange County tracksters after the field events portion of the District 22-4A Track & Field Championships at West Orange-Stark High School Monday.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Christian Weatherly was a double-winner in both the boys triple jump and long jump.

Weatherly triple-jumped a season-best and Southeast Texas-leading best of 45 feet, 7 inches Monday. He also won the high jump, going 6-4.

Bridge City’s Max Baker claimed the long jump, going 21-3. Bridge City’s Adam Snyder won the shot put with a 46-8 effort and finished second in the discus, finishing right behind Orangefield’s Michael Teeples, who won with a 117-7 toss.

Bridge City’s Ethan Corkran took the pole vault with a 12-0 effort while LC-M’s Eli Peveto cruised to a win in the 3,200 meters, running a 10:29.14.

On the girls’ side of the ledger, Orangefield’s Mackenzie Davis vaulted 10-0 to win the pole vault and now leads the Southeast Texas area with that high mark.

Orangefield’s Bailee Click took the high jump with a 5-2 leap and teammate Destinie Jeane shined in the triple jump, winning with a 36-0 effort. Orangefield’s Maddison Helm continues to dominate the distance races as she captured the 3,200 meters in 12:28.96.

Bridge City’s Rylee Oceguera took first in the shot put with a 34-9 effort.

With their efforts, Orangefield leads in the team standings after the field events with 69 points with Bridge City a close second with 63 points and Hamshire-Fannett third with 47.

Bridge City leads the boys field with 71.5 points with LC-M second at 50.

The running finals will take place Thursday at 6 p.m. back at WO-S High School.
