The Orange Leader

The Orange Friends of the Library once again invited the members and friends of AAUW (American Association of University Women) to present the AAUW Library Family of the Year certificate and gift at their March meeting.

The library staff is instrumental in naming the family, as records are kept as to how much families use and check-out books from the library.  A plaque is kept in the library all year with each new family’s name engraved upon it yearly. Engraving is always done by the staff and students at OCARC in Orange, according to AAUW.

The family selected this year was the Justice family of Orangefield, which includes parents Matthew and Janie, along with sons Xavier and Merrick.  The family moved to the area several years ago from Arkansas.  Matthew works for an area railroad, while Janie home schools the boys.  They come to the library often, especially looking for dinosaur books for the youngsters.

The Friends of the Library held its monthly meeting to discuss the annual upcoming used book sale and the Scholastic Book Fair, both set in April and May, as well as the summer book programs for children.  This year’s summer program will involve Dr. Seuss books, a children’s favorite.  Longtime Friends of the Library Board member, the late Mrs. “Dean” Barrios, was remembered with a special book ordered from Europe.

“Dean” was also a member of Orange AAUW and a teacher at the former AAUW Pre School in Orange.

A reception table of cookies, fruit, cheeses, and punch was assembled by the Board of Orange Friends of the Library, exemplifying a theme of Easter and spring.  Applications for membership in Friends of the Library were available.
