Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior standout basketball player Katon Brown was recently named to the Class 4A All-Region III Team as selected by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Brown was such a key cog in leading the Bears and Coach Brad Jeffcoat to 23 wins for the second consecutive season.

The Bears, who finished second in District 22-4A the last two seasons behind two-time Class 4A state champion Silsbee going 8-2 in district play both years, advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the second straight year.

Brown filled up the stat sheet for the Bears, averaging 19.2 points a game to go along with 11 rebounds, 4.5 assists and four steals.

Silsbee, fresh off another state title, placed guard Braelon Bush and forward Devon McCain on the elite unit and Hardin-Jefferson’s Jalen Sneed also made the team.

In Class 5A, 5A state champion Port Arthur Memorial had two players on the team in Darion Chatman and Thailin Wesley.

In Class 6A, Beaumont West Brook’s Elijah Parquet made the squad.

Southeast Texas had four players on the Class 3A unit in East Chambers’ Ernest Ceasar III and Kordell David along with Kountze’s Jeremiah Barker and Buna’s Alex Connell.

In Class 2A, Evadale’s Jonathan Gravis made the elite squad.
