ARLINGTON, Texas – Former Bridge City standout and University of Texas-Arlington Junior Alexus Henry will share Sun Belt Conference Women’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete honors following her performance at the SBC Indoor Championships last week, the league office has announced.
Henry won the pentathlon with a school-record 3,895 points and was the runner up in the high jump with a clearance of 5-11 ½. Between those two finishes, she scored 18 points for the Mavericks at the meet. That number tied for the third-most by any female at the SBC competition and was the most scored by any field event athlete.
She smashed her own school mark in the pentathlon by more than 200 points, and was more than 150 points in front of the second-place finisher. As a result of her victory, Henry was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference first team.
The native of Bridge City, Texas, has enjoyed a tremendous season, setting a school record in the high jump (6-1 ¼) in addition to her pentathlon mark. Her best high jump clearance ranks sixth in the NCAA this season and has earned her one of 16 spots in the field at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next week.
Henry will be competing next Friday (March 9) at 6 p.m. The meet will be contested in College Station, Texas.
