Save the Date! (1) Saturday, March 3, 2018 Vernon Historical and Genealogical Society (VH&GS) meeting

The VH&GS will hold their monthly meeting on March 3, 2018 in the meeting room of the Vernon Parish Library located at 1401 Nolan Trace, Leesville, LA.  The guest speaker will be Mrs. Billie Grunden, a Louisiana native who currently resides in Jasper, Texas.  The topic of her presentation will be “The Southern Claims Commission”.  These records are a source of historical and genealogical information from the Civil War period.  The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.  For more information, call (337) 239-0537.

(2) The Angelina County Genealogical Society and Keltys United Methodist Church are cooperating to present a celebration of the date Joseph H. Kurth Sr. bought the sawmill at Keltys outside Lufkin, Texas from Charles Louis Kelty on March 10, 1888.  Together on Saturday, March 10, 2018 and Sunday, March 11, 2018, the two of them will host at the church a series of speakers and other components of the event.  For more information, contact Rev. (3) Linda Reynolds, Director of the Center for East Texas Research on the campus of Stephen F.
